"Kami telah menerima lima ribu anakan pohon Matoa dari Wakil Ketua Majelis Rakyat Papua Dra Hanna Hikoyabi untuk disebarluaskan di sepanjang pegunungan Cycloop," kata Ketua Kelompok Pencinta Alam Hirosi, Marshel Suebu,S.Sos di Jayapura, Selasa.

Penyerahan lima ribu anakan pohon itu dilakukan pada Senin (10/3) oleh Hanna Hikoyabi kepada kelompok pencinta alam ini. Menurut rencana, bibit pohon Matoa ini akan ditanam di sepanjang kawasan penyangga pegunungan Cycloop di antaranya seputaran kota Sentani, daerah lingkar utara, Bambar, Kemiri dan Ifar Gunung.

Setiap titik akan ditanam seribu anakan pohon Matoa dan berharap agar masyarakat yang bermukim di kawasan tersebut ikut membantu memelihara tanaman tersebut sehingga dapat bertumbuh subur. Selain untuk menyangga kawasan pegunungan ini sehingga tidak menimbulkan erosi dan bencana alam banjir serta tanah longsor juga untuk mendatangkan keuntungan bagi masyarakat jika pohon ini sudah berbuah.

Sementara itu, Wakil Ketua II MRP, Dra Hanna Hikoyabi mengatakan, dirinya menaruh kepedulian yang amat tinggi pada pelestarian kawasan pegunungan Cycloop yang pada tahun 2007 lalu terjadi banjir bandang yang melanda kota Sentani, ibukota Kabupaten Jayapura.

"Kawasan pegunungan Cycloop harus dilestarikan kembali karena penebangan liar di kawasan itu menyebabkan bencana alam banjir bandang yang melanda kota Sentani. Kita tanam anakan pohon Matoa di kawasan pegunungan ini," katanya.

Buah Matoa merupakan buah khas dari tanah Papua yang bentuknya mirip kelengkeng, daging buahnya berasa manis mirip perpaduan antara rambutan dan kelengkeng.
